Nice pattern 1916 officer’s tunic of 2nd Lieutenant Sydney Charles Ward of the Norfolk Regiment.
Simplified 1916 pattern with plain sleeves and rank insignia on the shoulders instead of the sleeves.
2nd Lieutenant Sydney Charles Ward was wounded three times.
This is indicated by the three wounded bullion stripes on the left sleeve.
On the right sleeve four inverted overseas chevrons, one of which is red to indicate 1914.
On the left chest the ribbon of the 1914 Star and the ribbon of the Italian War Medal.
Complete with regimental collar insignia and buttons.
The lining with a tailor’s label and ink name Ward S.C.
The tunic is in untouched, worn condition, a few small moth holes have not affected the overall appearance.
The set is complete with a so-called military comfort scarf and leather equipment which consists of;
-Sam Brown Belt stamped Stiby and the Passant Martins-Birmingham 1917.
-Pistol lanyard.
-Webley holster.
-Webley 455. cartridge pouch, stamped Slazengers 1915 London.
Second Lieutenant Sydney Charles Ward served with the 1st Battl. Norfolk Regiment and landed in France on 16th August 1914.
In 1917 he took part in the fighting on the Piave in Italy (hence the ribbon on the tunic of the Italian War Medal).
